Spisska Nova Ves is a small town in the eastern part of Slovakia, which is definitely one of the most scenic areas in Slovakia with two National Parks at the doorstep – Tatra Mountains and Slovak Paradise. If you have time for a one-day easy trek, it is definitely an unforgettable experience and a must-see!

High Tatras (Tatra Mountains)
Dramatic mountain landscapes, wildflower-filled meadows, fields of blooming yellow rapeseed flowers, jagged peaks often clad in mist, pristine rivers and waterfalls, wooded hiking trails – need I say more? Everyone falls in love with the High Tatras – designated the “Tatra National Park” – not just for their surreal beauty, but also because they’re perfect to hike solo and independently. Now whilst there are hikes where you might need an experienced tour guide and perhaps someone dragging you to the peak, there are so many easy tracks around the spectacular lakes and can be easily done in an hour or two. There are also cable cars going up and down to these destinations and the tickets can be bought at the ticket office on the spot.
My favourite is Skalnate Pleso – Rocky Lake, with a restaurant and pub overlooking the south side of the mountains. You can hike there (I would not :D) or you can take a cable car, which is much more convenient. For a tour to The Rocky Lake, you need to go to Tatranska Lomnica.

Popular activities include a trip by cable car from Skalnate pleso to the second-highest peak of the High Tatras, Lomnický štít (2634 m above sea level). I recommend booking the cable car several days in advance. BUT (it has a but…) if the weather is stormy on the day, they would close the access to the peak and you would not be able to go anywhere. Or, if it’s cloudy, you might end up having this view:
But they have tap beer up there, so we did not mind 😊, and the trip up by the able car is magnificent.
